A Year After the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami, Are You Any Better Prepared?

It's been a year since an earthquake brought a devastating tsunami with its massive destruction to the Japanese coastal areas. The number one question is, "Are we any better prepared for a disaster in our own neighborhood by what we learned from the Japanese disaster?"

Each disaster around the world brings devastation and sadness, but also an opportunity to learn and prepare ourselves for the day that our neighborhood might sadly be in the headlines.

It's official. We did the tally yesterday and as of December 31st 2011, LifeSecure has helped secure 492,437 lives with emergency kits and supplies.

This puts us so very close to our goal of securing half a million lives. It won't take us long and we'll reach that significant mark. Then we'll set a new goal and keep working toward helping to make Every Life Secure in any emergency or disaster.

Emergency Transportation - Prepare Your Bike For Any Disaster

My 21 year old son recently started his own bike repair business in our garage in the Chicago suburbs as a way to save money before he heads back to college.  His Beat The Bike Shop^TM bicycle repair business puts him in touch with both biking enthusiasts and people who just want to get their bikes "running" again.

There are hundreds of thousands of bikes in garages across america that are not in good working condition.  You may have one or two in your own garage.  Now may be a good time to get them to your local independent bicycle mechanic or bike shop for a good tune up.  In a disaster when gas may not be available or roads may be impassable to vehicles, a bike may be a good transportation option.  It isn't an option unless its running.

Prepare your bike now and think about how you will carry your emergency kit while you bike.  An emergency backpack is an obvious choice.
