A new outbreak of the H5 bird flu has been reported in India. Chickens are being culled and their eggs destroyed once again in order to try to contain the outbreak.
Last month a U.N. agency warned that the H5N1 virus has mutated and is showing up in various parts of Asia and beyond. Unfortunately, there is still no vaccine to combat H5N1.
So we need to begin to take the normal precautions for our upcoming flu season, and make sure to know what to do should we experience a pandemic from this or other strains of the flu. We have been lucky in recent years not to have had a devastating pandemic, but we know it is only a matter of time before we do once again.
It is time to check your pandemic preparedness supplies.
